Built in the 1880s, Bob & Christine’s home in New Town is a true Tasmanian heritage treasure. As dedicated custodians for over 30 years, they’ve lovingly maintained its character, and over the past decade, partnered with Sealasash to improve its comfort and performance without compromising on authenticity.
Back in early 2014, they were among the first to adopt Sealasash’s Core Service — draught sealing and restoring their original timber windows to smooth, functional condition.
Now, over ten years later, they’ve taken the next step: upgrading to 6.1mm annealed thermal vacuum glass by Panasonic (Glavenir).
With over 40 panes installed, Bob & Christine now enjoy the benefits of triple glazing — thermal performance, condensation resistance, and acoustic insulation — all while maintaining the timeless colonial look of their windows. Thanks to our careful techniques, the original colonial glazing bars were preserved. [Learn how we do that → Glazing Bars and Vacuum Insulated Double Glazing]
And crucially, the windows still function fully — sliding and locking as they always have, now just far more efficient.
Living close to the Brooker Highway, Bob & Christine have noticed another major upgrade: significantly reduced traffic noise. The vacuum glass has brought welcome peace and quiet to their historic home.
