On Abels Road in Abels Bay, Tasmania, Sealasash recently completed a draught sealing Abels Bay project on a large waterfront home exposed to strong ocean breezes. The property’s location meant cold air was pushing through gaps in the windows and doors, leaving the interior uncomfortable and costly to heat.
Our solution was to carry out a complete draught sealing program across the entire home, improving the thermal envelope and blocking those persistent breezes. As outlined in our Simple Solutions Work guide, sealing is one of the most effective ways to improve home comfort without overcomplicating the process.
Project Scope – Draught Sealing from Top to Bottom
The project was completed in just five days and included:
- Upstairs: 15 casement windows and 4 double doors sealed with perimeter brush seals and Q-seals
- Downstairs: 9 casement windows and 4 double doors fully sealed
- Studio: 2 awning windows repaired and draught sealed
We used high-quality brown brush seals and Q-seals to ensure durability and performance. Where timber required planing or repair, the frames were re-oiled with the client’s chosen finish to maintain and protect the original appearance.
Results of Draught Sealing in Abels Bay
With the work complete, the homeowners now enjoy:
- A warmer, draught-free interior despite coastal winds
- A more energy-efficient thermal envelope
- Windows and doors that operate smoothly with modern seals
- Preserved timber joinery ready to withstand the elements
This draught sealing Abels Bay project highlights why sealing is the first and most effective step in improving home performance. For more background on why draught proofing works, see Historic England’s draught proofing research.
