West Melbourne window and door renewal – Stanley Street

Three fixed panes and one awning window were upgraded with 8.1mm toughened Glavenir vacuum glass. The entry door's fanlight was brought up to the same glazing standard, the door fully serviced and draught sealed, and a new black lockable chain winder installed.

In West Melbourne on Stanley Street, we upgraded a mix of fixed panes and an awning window with 8.1mm toughened Glavenir vacuum insulated glazing by Panasonic, pairing the glass upgrade with a full entry door service — draught sealing, adjustment and new hardware — to lift the security, performance and day to day usability of the home.

The project focused on improving glass performance and durability while retaining the existing windows and doors, with the entry door fanlight also brought up to the same glazing standard and a new black lockable chain winder fitted for safer, more convenient ventilation.

Scope of works

The scope of work included the installation of three fixed panes with 8.1mm toughened Glavenir by Panasonic and one awning window with 8.1mm toughened Glavenir by Panasonic. For the entry door, the fanlight fixed pane was upgraded with 8.1mm toughened Glavenir, and a full door service and draught seal was completed. A black lockable chain winder was also supplied and installed to the awning window.

With the unit located upstairs, materials and tools were carefully transported through the property, and the works included planing and adjustment of hinged components to ensure everything operated smoothly. All waste was removed from site on completion.

Outcome

Upgrading to 8.1mm toughened Glavenir glass significantly improves the durability and safety of the windows and fanlight, offering enhanced protection alongside the thermal benefits of vacuum insulated glazing. Servicing and sealing the entry door ensures smooth and reliable operation, while the new black lockable chain winder adds an important layer of security and convenience for the awning window.

The property now benefits from enhanced security features and improved operation of its windows and doors, with the existing joinery retained throughout. We explain why the internal surface temperature of your glass changes the way a room feels in An Easy Way to Understand Glass Performance.
