In a much-loved Hobart home, we carried out a comprehensive timber window renewal, reglazing windows across the front bedroom, front room, lounge and kitchen with 6.1mm Glavenir vacuum insulated glazing by Panasonic. Alongside the glass upgrade, the original sashes were fully overhauled and fitted with new antique brass hardware, lifting comfort and performance while keeping every bit of the home’s character.
The goal was simple: warmer, quieter, smoother-running windows that still look and feel original. Rather than replacing the joinery, we upgraded the performance of the windows the house was built with.

Scope of works
Windows across the front bedroom, front room, lounge and kitchen were reglazed with 6.1mm Glavenir vacuum glass, using a mix of square panes, top complex units and casement units to suit each opening. The bottom sashes were given a full overhaul so they run properly again, with new long-life waxed cotton cords, heavy-duty pulleys, counterweights and additional acoustic seals. Top sashes were fixed in place, while every bottom sash was made fully operational.
Timber repairs were carried out where needed, including a bay window sill repair, sash and rail repairs in the lounge and front room, and a vertical scarf joint. To finish, new antique brass Fitch fasteners and restrictors were fitted, and the existing draught seals were reused wherever they were still doing their job.
Why this upgrade matters
Moving to 6.1mm Glavenir vacuum glass makes a real difference to how a room feels, with much better thermal and acoustic insulation for improved comfort and energy efficiency. Overhauling the sashes brings back smooth, reliable operation and extends the life of the windows, putting an end to draughts and rattles. The antique brass hardware keeps the period look while adding modern security and easy day-to-day use. It is the combination of advanced glazing and traditional craft that lets these windows perform at their best while staying true to the home.
The result
The home now enjoys noticeably warmer, quieter rooms across the front bedroom, front room, lounge and kitchen. The vacuum glazing delivers superior insulation, the overhauled sashes glide smoothly, and the new brass hardware looks and works beautifully. Every window has been kept and renewed rather than replaced, ready for many more years of reliable service. What our customer said
My experience with the entire staff at Sealasash was great, from quoting, preparing for the work and the job itself. They honoured their commitments even when the work took longer and was more complicated. The crew worked hard to fit Glavenir to most of the windows in our home in a few days, were tidy and clean and respectful, and communication was great throughout. Now we can enjoy our new windows! Highly recommend.
